In local dialect Namik translates into saline water springs which perfectly represent this glacier as a number of waterfalls and sulphur springs originate from this glacier. Namik village was once an important centre of Indo-Tibetan trade.

The trail largely follows the Ramganga River winding through deep forests and rolling meadows with stunning views of the Himalayan range.

Namik glacier is surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the Himalayas such as Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot and Trishul. The trek starts from Munsyari which is a beautiful hamlet.
